Tahitian Black Pearls and Necklaces

Posted on: June 20, 2011

Black has an attraction over any other color and most of the fashion trends revolve around this color in any season. Thus, Tahitian Black Pearls are very popular in the pearl market. The pearl necklaces made with these gems are hot selling ornaments than any other pearl jewelry. Tahitian black pearls are formed by an oyster called Pinctada margaritiferain thelagoons of French Polynesia in the South Pacific.

Among many other pearls, these are the generally of bigger size due to the size of the oyster itself. The oyster has large diameter and also it produces nacre of high volume during the pearl formation. Thus the Tahitian pearls are solid, have thicker diameter and good quality making them one of the most popular pearls.

Tahitian pearl necklaces are very expensive. The original pearls available in the market are rare to find. The imitation or fake Tahitian pearls are flooded in the market with colors dyed on other pearls or glass balls. These Pearls are mostly available in metallic blue-gray, dark gunmetal gray or a dark green color which looks almost like black. These are also found in different sizes, smoothness, luster and shapes. The only cultured pearls naturally black in color are Black Tahitian pearls with no sort of artificial color job on the pearls. So these are also called the Black pearls or shortly Tahiti pearls. These are cheap in price when compared to the black south sea pearls. Most people think that both black south sea pearls and black pearls are the same. But these two pearls are two different types and have very less similarity to each other.
